Born and raised on the coast of Georgia, just south of Savannah, Alan was immersed in a boating and fishing family that laid the groundwork for his future as a captain. After completing his studies at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Alan's adventures catapulted him beyond the waters of Georgia when he accepted an invitation to sail across the Atlantic to Kinsale, Ireland—a journey that solidified his passion for life at sea. Realizing that yachting was his true calling, Alan pursued a career in the industry, a decision he'll tell you was the best he ever made. Known for his engaging conversation and love of sharing new experiences, Alan is a gracious host who delights in introducing guests to stunning locations and exciting activities. Born on the Space Coast of Florida in Titusville, Ryan grew up cruising the waterways and local rivers with his dad, developing a passion for the ocean and honing his fishing skills from an early age. Encouraged by a family friend to explore the yachting industry, he moved to Fort Lauderdale at 21 and never looked back. With nearly a decade of experience in the industry, Ryan has built an impressive career on both yachts and sportfishing boats that have carried him along the Eastern Seaboard and throughout the Bahamas and Caribbean. A licensed captain and skilled boat handler, Ryan loves to guide guests through tender excursions around the islands—exploring local spots, snorkeling, fishing, picnicking on hidden sandbars, and hiking. He's also quite the watersports enthusiast with a strong surfing background, making him the perfect guy to guide guests through any watersport adventure—whether it’s mastering the Fliteboard, riding a SeaBob, or having fun on a jetski. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys fishing wherever he can—be it in the Everglades or offshore—hunting, golfing, or free diving. Rachel is a Pennsylvania native, who at age 20 followed her love of the water to the Virgin Islands. Her passion for the open ocean, culinary arts and human relationship culminate to give guests the ultimate bespoke experience they'll talk about well after their time on board. Rachel's bubbly, warm and welcoming character help create the perfect environment for any vacation or special event. Growing up in an Italian family with life centering around the kitchen, Rachel was taught the importance of quality ingredients from a young age. In the years that followed, she trained with some of the top chefs between Philadelphia and the US Virgin Islands, opening her up to a diverse range of cuisines and allowing her to further hone her craft. Today, Rachel continues to evolve her artistry as she expertly navigates every unique palette and dietary requirement with a creative flair that has guests both reaching for their cameras and begging for seconds. She is wonderful with children and embraces the opportunity to share her passion and experience through creative culinary techniques with her guests. When Rachel is not cooking up a storm and working on board, she's typically found fire dancing, sharing her passion for flow arts with anyone who asks (she does this for guests too!), free diving, scuba diving, skydiving or driving anything she can get her hands on-- boats, motorcycles, four wheelers and dirt bikes. The cost of a crewed yacht charter in the Bahamas varies considerably depending on the yacht type, size, season, and level of luxury. Smaller crewed catamarans can start from around $20,000 per week, while luxury motor yachts commonly cost $50,000 to $100,000 or more, and large superyachts can reach several hundred thousand dollars per week. On many luxury charters, you should also budget for operating expenses, the applicable Bahamas charter tax, and crew gratuity in addition to the advertised base rate.
What is included in a crewed yacht charter in the Bahamas?
It depends on the yacht. Many crewed catamarans in the Bahamas operate with largely inclusive pricing, while motor yachts and superyachts are more commonly offered at a base charter rate plus expenses. On these yachts, food, drinks, fuel, marina fees, and other operating costs are usually paid through an APA, or Advance Provisioning Allowance, which is typically collected before the charter and managed by the captain. Any unused APA funds are reconciled at the end of the trip.
Exumas vs Abacos: Which is better for a Bahamas yacht charter?
For a first Bahamas yacht charter, the Exumas are usually our first recommendation. Their 365 islands and cays offer extraordinary water clarity, deserted beaches, sandbars, protected anchorages, and famous stops including Big Major Cay, Staniel Cay, and the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. The Abacos offer a different experience, with more established island communities, picturesque settlements such as Hope Town, and an extensive network of marinas. If you want remote natural beauty, choose the Exumas. If you prefer more time around charming towns, marinas, and established island stops, the Abacos can be an excellent alternative.
Where should you start a Bahamas yacht charter?
Nassau and Paradise Island are the most common starting points for Bahamas yacht charters, particularly for itineraries heading south into the Exumas. They offer excellent international flight connections, major marinas, and one of the largest concentrations of charter yachts in the country. Some itineraries can instead begin around Staniel Cay or Great Exuma, allowing you to start farther into the Exumas, while Marsh Harbour is the natural gateway for an Abacos charter. The best embarkation point ultimately depends on your yacht, itinerary, and available charter dates.
Can you charter a yacht in the Bahamas during hurricane season?
Yes, but you need considerably more flexibility. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with the greatest tropical storm risk generally occurring later in the summer and early autumn. If minimizing weather risk is your priority, the winter and spring charter season is the safer choice.
Catamaran vs motor yacht in the Bahamas: Which should you charter?
Both work extremely well, but catamarans have a particular advantage in the Bahamas because of their shallow draft. Much of the Exumas consists of shallow banks, sandbars, and protected anchorages, allowing suitable catamarans to get closer to beaches and explore areas that deeper-draft yachts may need to avoid. Motor yachts are the better choice if speed, luxury amenities, and covering greater distances are priorities. For relaxed island hopping and maximum access to shallow water, choose a catamaran. For faster cruising and a more traditional luxury yacht experience, choose a motor yacht.
